b/ Cách dùng:
Diễn tả hành động đã xảy ra và chấm dứt hẳn trong quá khứ.
Diễn tả một loạt hành động xảy ra trong quá khứ.
Diễn tả một thói quen trong quá khứ ( used to + V)
c/ Dấu hiệu:
Last month (tháng trước), last year (năm trước), last summer (mùa hè trước), ....
Yesterday: ngày hôm qua
Time + ago: ex: 5 year ago (5 năm trước đây ),....
From + time quá khứ + to + thời gian quá khứ 
in + thời gian quá khứ
d/ Cách thêm đuôi "ed" đối với các động từ có quy tắc
Nếu động từ có tận cùng là một phụ âm thì ta thêm đuôi "ed".

Nếu động từ tận cùng bằng "e" thì ta chỉ cần thêm đuôi "d".
live đ lived
die đ died
Nếu động từ đọc lên có một âm tiết; kết thúc bằng một phụ âm (ngoại trừ w, x , y); trước phụ âm là một nguyên âm thì ta nhân đôi phụ âm cuối rồi thêm đuôi "ed".

Nếu động từ có hai âm tiết; tận cùng là một phụ âm; trước phụ âm là một nguyên âm và trọng âm rơi vào âm tiết số 2 thì ta nhân đôi phụ âm cuối rồi thêm đuôi "ed".

Nếu động từ tận cùng là "y"; trước "y" là một phụ âm thì ta đổi "y" thành "i" rồi thêm đuôi "ed".

Lưu ý:
Nếu động từ tận cùng là "y"; trước "y" là một nguyên âm thì ta không được phép đổi "y" thành "i" rồi thêm đuôi "ed".
Nếu động từ có hai âm tiết; tận cùng là một phụ âm; trước phụ âm là một nguyên âm mà trọng âm không rơi vào âm tiết số 2 thì ta không được phép nhân đôi phụ âm cuối rồi thêm đuôi "ed".
