New lesson: Teacher’s activities Students’ activities 3.1. Pre - reading - Asks students to look at the picture and the letter B1/p.92. Then answer the questions. + Can you guess what is it about? + If you write a letter to your friend and you want to tell him/her about your family, what do you write? - Sets the scene: Today we read a letter from Tim Jones to Hoa in the letter, Tim talk about his family. You look at the photo and can you guess what does Tim write? - Asks students listen to the tape. - Presents new words take care of = look after(v) part time: (translation) mechanic(n): explain machine(n): explain prefer(v): example shift(n): explain 3.2. While - reading - Asks students to practice reading the dialogue in groups of four. - Calls on some pairs to practice in front of the class. - Corrects students’ mistakes. - Asks students to read the dialogue again and answer the questions B1/p.66 in groups of 4. - Goes round to help if necessary. - Has some representatives give their answer in front of the class. - Checks up and gives the keys. 3.3.
