After inventing dynamite, Swedish-bom Alfred Nobel became a very rich man. However, he foresaw its universally destmctive powers too late. Nobel preferred not to be remembered as the inventor of dynamite, so in 1895, just two weeks before his death, he created a fund to be used for awarding prizes to people who had made worthwhile contributions to mankind. Originally there were five awards literature, physics, chemistry, medicine and peace. Economics was added in 1968, just sixty-seven years after the first awards ceremony. Nobel's original legacy of nine million dollars was invested, and the interest on this sum is used for the awards which vary from $30,000 to $125,000. Every year on December 10, the anniversary of Nobel's death, the awards are presented to the winners. Sometimes politics plays an important role in the judges' decisions. Americans have won numerous science awards, but relatively few literature prizes. No awards were presented from 1940 to 1942 at the beginning of World War II. Some people have won two prizes, but this is rare; others have shared their prizes.

III. COMPOSITION – A SUGGESTED WRITING
Teaching life skills is an essential part in our current curriculum for the following reasons.
Firstly, in everyday life, life skills helps students to find new ways of thinking and solving problems, recognise the impact of their actions, and be ready to take responsibility for what they do rather than blame others. Secondly, to cope with the increasing pace and change of modern life, and meet the challenges of everyday life, life skills help students to build confidence both in publlic speaking and for group collaboration and cooperation, make decisions and understand why they make certain choices outside the classroom and develop a greater sense of self-awareness and appreciation for others. Thirdly, while students work hard to get good grades, many tend to gain fame and ambition, life skills will enable them to self-manage, and understand the labour environment. This will help them to work well as part of a team and manage their own time for schoolwork and/or entertainment. Moreover, with new life skills such as the ability to deal with stress and frustration, if they happen to go to new and strange isolated places, they should be prepared to face associated pressures and the need for flexibility to survive. Last but not least, they must be instructed to gain agility and adaptability to different roles and flexible working environments when they go out to work later.
In a word, the more we develop life skills for children, the more these affect and benefit the world they live in. [250 words]
