I.Objectives: 
-By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
Analyze the contents of the conversation about an independent person
Talk about why should become an independent person.

Warm-up: Match the verbs with its definitions. (P. 31)

-“hello class, before going on the next lesson. Let’s check the vocabulary. Look at the board please. I have 6 definitions and how many words in here?”
“-work individually, read the definitions carefully and match them with suitable meaning. 5’ for you.let’s start.”
-after 5’ call some ss to read the answers and T help Ss pronounce the difficult words/phrase in the conversation.
-T will ask Ss some questions about the topic.
-look at the board and listen instruction carefully

Lead-in: (show the picture has Lan and Mai)

*Suggested answers: 
Lan and Mai ( if the class do not know, T will introduce them)
A) Yes. They are talking about an independent person in class.
No. ( don’t’ worry)
“hello class, before starting the new lesson. Look at this picture please. Tell me, who she? And can you guess what they are talking?”
-After that, T will call some Ss to answer these questions.
“-Don’t worry. To know more about what they are talking. Let’s study unit 3. becoming independent person, lesson getting started ”
-Ss will think and answer these questions.
-answer the questions and do the task.

Task 2:Read the conversation carefully. 
Suggested new words:
independent (adj): tự tin
Responsible (adj): đáng tin cậy
Assignment (n): nhiệm vụ
Determined (adj): kiên quyết
Self-reliant: tự lực
Well-informed: thông thạo
Decisive (adj): kiên quyết
Task 3. Read the conversation again and answer these questions.
1.Why does Lan like Minh?
2.Why does Lan think Minh is a very responsible student?
3.What is an example showing that Minh is very determined?
4.Why does Lan think that Minh is self-reliant?
5.What are the characteristics of an independent person according to Lan and Mai?
6.Which of Minh characteristics do you have? Which do you like most?
Keys:
1.Because Minh doesn’t rely on other people for help and isn’t influenced by other people’s opinions.
2.Because he always completes his task on time, and never needs to be reminded about the assignments and other schoolwork.
3.He always tried to find solutions to his problems and seldom needs help from others.

-T call ss to read each question and ask them underline the key words in question.
“-you have 10’ to read and answer these questions. Let’s start.”
-while ss do the task, T move around and help them.
“-ok, times up, stop working here. Now, share the answers with your partners in 3’. Let’s start.”
-after 3’, T will call some Ss take turn the board and write down the answers and check with class.
“-Times up. Go to the board and write the answer please.”
-T will check the answers and ask them where the ss found.
-listen T carefully

Task 4: Talking with your partners. Answer the question below.
-why should you be the independent person? 
Suggested answers: 
I want to be an independent person because independence will help me be more active in life and study. Besides, it helps me be more confident and happier when I can help the people in need. Therefore, my life will be more significant.

-Then T call some pairs to talk in front of the class.
