Giới thiệu:
Khi thuật lại lời núi của người khỏc, ta cú thể nhắc lại nguyờn văn. Trường hợp này được gọi là lời núi trực tiếp( Direct speech) và khi viết phải đặt trong ngoặc kộp.
Ex: Nam said, “I am going to the cinema”.
 The boy said to me, “ My father has not come”.
Nhưng ta cú thể sửa đổi chỳt ớt và lồng vào cõu núi của mỡnh. Trường hợp này gọi là lời núi giỏn tiếp(Indirect speech)
Ex: Nam said that he was going to the cinema.
 The boy told me that his father had not come.
 Quy tắt chuyển lời núi trực tiếp sang giỏn tiếp.
Đổi ngụi thứ của đại từ nhõn xưng, tớnh từ và đại từ sở hữu cho thớch hợp.

Nếu nhắc lại lời núi trong quỏ khứ và dung động từ ở thỡ quỏ khứ trong mệnh đề chớnh( he said.., they told.) thỡ động từ trong lời núi giỏn tiếp phải lựi về quỏ khứ một bước theo cỏc quy tắc , vớ dụ sau:

Mệnh đề chớnh ở đầu cõu ở thỡ hiện tại mang ý nghĩa tương lai.
Ex: ‘ I’m living in Ha Noi:
He says that he is living in Ha Noi.
Cõu trực tiếp diễn tả sự thực vcĩnh cửu:
Ex: “ The earth moves around the sun”

Thay đổi những tớnh từ, phú từ hay cựm phú từ chỉ thời gian, nơi chốn:

 Learning a foreign language is, in some ways, like learning how to fly. There are some differences, but there is a very important similarity. It is this: learning how to do these things needs a lot of practice. It is never enough to read a book on how to fly a plane. A book can give you a lot of information about how to fly, but if you only read that book, then try to fly without any practice, you will kill yourself. The same is true of learning a foreign language.
