- Play the tape twice, then ask Ss to listen to the tape.
- Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in pairs.
- Call on 3 pairs to practice in front of the class. Correct their pronunciation.

 - Ask Ss to look at these picture, page 17 and ask and answer about the distance in the pictures.
- Call on some pairs to practice in front of the class.
- Correct their mistakes.

- Set the scene: “ You will hear 4 converstations and find out the distance between the places mentioned in the tape.”
- Play the tape 3 times and ask Ss to listen and answer the question: “ How far is it from Lan's house to ..?”
