Sing a second time, with students at the front holding the four flashcards ( tiger, snake, parrot) and every time they hear their word they hold the card up in the air. aUse flashcards 11-19 to review zoo animal words. Hold up the cards one at a time and ask children to say the words. Put the flashcards on the board and point to them in a different order for children to say the words again. Development aExercise 1: Ask children to open their workbook at the page 16. Ask them to find and circle the zoo animal words, and then write the appropriate word under each animal picture. Children work in pairs, point to each animal and ask What is it? Their partner answers A monkey. aExercise 2: Remind children of the descriptive adjectives (big, little, long, short). Ask them to look at the pictures of zoo animals and use the adjectives to describe each animal. They then write the answers in the gaps. Children can work in pairs to check the answers with their partner. 1. big/ long. 2. short/ little. Consolidation a Game: Play a game with children using animal sounds. Ask children to make the sounds for the parrot, snake, and tiger from the song. Then ask them what sounds elephants, monkeys, cats, dogs, and birds make. Call out the name of one of these animals. All the children have to make the sound of that animal. Choose different children each time to call out the name of an animal for the rest of the class to make their sound. Show a flashcard (an elephant) and ask What is it? Children answer an elephant. Continue to review all animal words. aPlay Bingo again to revise the vocabulary and sentence structures Development aPicture Dictionary: Ask children open their Workbooks to p.69. Tell them to look at the zoo animals carefully (Number 2, The zoo) and then tell them to point and say if they like/ dislike the animals, using the target sentence structures with their partner. Encourage children to state a reason for their like or dislike. E.g. I like elephants. They’re big. aWriting Exercise 1: Children do the exercise 1 from the Extra writing worksheet, color and write the correct animal word. Then you write I like elephant. on the board. Ask children to work in groups of 4 -6, take turns to do the same. Ask some of children to do the actions before the class for the other children to write sentences. Ask children to write the sentences on the board for peer correction. Play the CD and say the chant from page 11 to revise the sound /θ /. aVocabulary: Hold up the cat, fan, and man phonics cards one at a time, saying the words for the class to repeat. Ask children what today's letter is (a) and what sound it makes (/ổ/). Use the flash cards in order and then out of order to drill the sound. Development aRecording 19: Play the first part of the recording for children to listen and point to the pictures. Play the second part of the recording for children to repeat the sounds and words in chorus. Play the recording all the way through for children to point to the words and then repeat them. aRecording 20: Children join in with the chant. Put the three cards around the room and children point as they say the chant. aExercise 3: Ask children to look at the chant again. Focus attention on the circled a in the middle of cat. Ask children to find and circle other examples of a in the middle of words. Go through the exercise with the class. a Exercise 4: Ask children to look at the pictures. Ask individual children to come to the front and write the letters on the board. Development aExercise 1: Children say and write the words. Put children in pairs. Ask them to point and say the words. cat, hat. 2. man, fan aExercise 2: Children do the exercise and write the sentences to describe the pictures. Children can compare their work in pairs. Children listen as you read out the words on the second page, and write them in the correct box with the corresponding sound. Check as a whole class once the dictation activity has finished. You could write the sounds on the board and ask individual children to come up and write the words. Consolidation aPhonics game: Ask children to work in groups of two desks. Ask each group to find more words which is pronounced the same as man and make sentences with the words. E.g. The cat has got a hat. Encourage children to make the words into a chant. Ask the class to decide on actions for the chant and then to recite the chant again as they do their actions. Ask them to act before the class.
