Birth of the Computer
Most people think of the computers as very modern inventions, products of our new technological age. But actually the idea for a computer (1) __________ worked out over two centuries ago by a man (2) __________ Charles Babbage.

Last summer, I went with my mum and dad to visit my aunt in New York. We traveled from London by plane. It took about eight hours. I didn’t get bored because I read my new book.
When we arrived, my aunt met us at the airport. She lives in a flat near the center. We took a taxi to her flat. It was small, but it was very nice.
On our first day in New York, we all took the metro into the city center. We visited the Empire State Building. It’s taller than the Eiffel Tower. We went to the top of the building, but we didn’t see all of New York because it was cloudy.
The next day, we went shopping, I bought some jeans and two T-shirts. New York is great for shopping because it isn’t as expensive as London and you can find some really cool clothes.
My favorite part of the holiday was going to a fast food restaurant. I had a hamburger and chips. It was delicious! I think that American food is better than British food - and the burgers are bigger!
I love New York. The people are friendly and the food and shops are fantastic. Next year, I want to visit New York again.
