Thẩm Tâm Vy October 27th, 2018 PRACTISE LISTENING ADVANCED LESSON 98 PRACTISE LISTENING 08 ~ ADVANCED Nicky: Tell me about your previous job. Rachel: Um I was a professional actress and um, one of my first jobs was playing Peter Pan in a travelling pantomime, just the three of us. Nicky: Fascinating. Was it hard work? Rachel: It was incredibly hard work because we were doing three shows a day, six days a week, um, and we were travelling to and from those performances, setting up the performances and actually then performing as well. Nicky: And what qualifications did you have to have to become an actress in the first place? Rachel: Um, I didn't actually have any formal qualifications but I had a huge theatrical background, um, I'd done a lot of amateur work growing up and then to actually get the job though I did, um, audition for an agent and then he got me this first job when he took me on, so Nicky: Wonderful. And what skills would you say an actress or an actor has to have? Rachel: Huge passion and drive for what you're doing. I don't think you could do it without the passion and wanting to perform and act for people. You also need a lot of stamina, um, for the amount of performances that you're doing and you need to keep your training up, um, and just yeah, just keep very fit. And you also need to be really flexible. Um, your performances, you know, you could be performing at any kind of venue, um, your shows might need to adapt to your audiences, so yeah, you need to be willing to be flexible all the time. ~~~~ Notes: (1) drive: energy and determination to achieve things e.g. - We are looking for someone with drive and ambition. [+ to infinitive] - He has the drive to succeed. (2) stamina: the physical and/or mental strength to do something that might be difficult and will take a long time: e.g. - The triathlon is a great test of stamina.
