(see page 20). Children have to mime actions for the outdoor activities as you say them. a Ask children to think of actions for each of the outdoor activities. Play the chant again. Children do the actions as they say the words. Development aExercise 1: Ask children to look at the pictures carefully, identify what the next is, draw and then write the word next to each picture. Children then work in pairs to compare their works. 2 skate, 3 play tennis, 4 ride a bike, 5 play soccer, 6 skateboard aExercise 2: Ask children to look at the pictures, identify the outdoor activities related to a wheel or a ball. Children then sit in pairs, compare the answers and practice saying the words. 1 ride a bike, skate, skateboard. 2 play tennis, play soccer Consolidation aMiming: Play a miming game. Put children in groups of 6- one for each outdoor activity (skate, skateboard, ride a bike, ride a horse, play tennis, play soccer). Children take turns to mime the outdoor activities for other children to make sentences. E.g. The first child mimes riding a bike. Other group members say the verb ride a bike and make sentences He can ride a bike. I can ride a bike, too. Or I can’t ride a bike. Ask children continue till all of them finish their miming. Ask some of the children come in front of the class and mime for their friends to say the verbs and the sentences. Show Story poster 8 to encourage ideas. Cover the poster and ask children which outdoor activities were mentioned in the story. Development aExercise 1: Ask children to turn to the story on page 58 of their Class Books. Play the recording, pausing for children to repeat. Divide the class into pairs to play the parts of Tim and Grandpa Decide on the actions for the story. Children practise acting out the story. Check children’s work. aExercise 2: Ask children to look at the pictures in the Let's learn! Box. Read the sentences; elicit to teach the pattern I can play football. I can't ride a horse. Can she skateboard? Can he play football? Invite different children to change the activities words to make new sentences and questions. aWriting: Ask children to look at the pictures. Ask children to work in pairs, take turns to point to the people in Exercise 3 and ask questions about them. Ask some pairs to ask and answer questions before the class. Consolidation a Grammar Reference: Ask children to open their Class Books to p.75 and do the Unit 8 Grammar activity to practice the target structure further. Invite a child to come to the front and put one flashcard for an outdoor activity that he / she can do next to can, and a different flashcard next to can't. Ask the class, e.g. Can Halima skate? to elicit the answer Yes, she can or No, she can't. Repeat the activity with different boys, girls, and small groups to practise using he, she, and they. Development a Exercise 1: Ask children to look at the pictures and write if the person can or can’t do something. They then write the answer for each of the picture. Children then work in pairs and practise asking and answering. 1 Yes, he can. 2 No, she can’t. 3 Yes, they can. 4 No, they can’t. 5 Yes, she can. 6 No, he can’t. aExercise 2: Ask children to look back to the Exercise 1 again and write sentences to confirm what the persons can or can’t do. Consolidation aSpeaking activity: Play Find someone who can or can’tAsk children to sit in group of 4 -6. Children ask around if their friends can or can’t do something. E. g. Can you skate? Can you play soccer? Their friends answer Yes, I can. / No, I can't. They then take notes of their friends’ outdoor activities and report about their group. Encourage them to use Can; Can't; He; She; They. E.g. Ann can play tennis. He can skate, but he can’t ride a bike. Children can point to the friends they are talking about. Tell the children that you are sad because you can't find your teddy bear. Ask them to help, looking around the classroom for the teddy bear until one of them tells you where it is. a Use flashcards 80 - 83 to introduce the new vocabulary. Hold up the cards one at a time and say the words and phrases for children to repeat. Demonstrate the meaning of the words by putting the teddy bear behind, in front of, and next to an object and then between two items. Ask children to repeat the vocabulary. Development aRecording 78: Play the first part of the recording for children to point to the pictures and say the words and phrases. Play the second part of the recording for children to repeat the words and phrases. Play the recording all the way through again for children to listen and point and then repeat. Hold up flashcards 80 - 83 one at a time for individual children to say the words. aRecording 79: Use the song worksheet (without opening the Class Book) where children listen and fill in the correct words. After that ask children to sing along with the CD and then sing together without the CD audio. aSing and do: Ask children to look at the pictures and tell you which action they should do for each verse of the song. Play the recording for children to listen and do their actions. Consolidation aGame: Ask children to work in groups of 4- 6. Encourage them to think about different verses on another toy or any of the classroom objects. E. g. Where is my pencil? Ask them to sing their song before the class.
