Ask children to sing the song again from memory. Hold up the tired flashcard to prompt the class and sing If you're tired and you know it. Help children to recall the rest of the verses. aPlay Bingo again to revise the feelings words. Development aPicture Dictionary: Ask children open their Workbooks to p.71 (Number 7, School things). Tell them to look at the pictures, point and say the words. E.g. hungry, happy, angry, scare. Children then work in pairs and talk about the feelings or emotions of the person in each picture. E. g. She’s tired. He’s brave. aWriting Exercise 1: Children do the exercise 1 from the Extra writing worksheet. Ask them to look at the pictures and complete the puzzle. Ask some individual children to come up and write the words on the board. Ask the class to say the words. 2 hot, 3 angry, 4 scare, 5 happy, 6 brave aWriting Exercise 2: Ask children to look at the pictures, ask and answer about how the persons feel. Children then work in pairs and practise asking and answering about feelings or emotions. 1 aren’t, 2 Is /she isn’t, 3 Is/ he isn’t/ He’s, 4 Are they / they aren’t. /They’re. Consolidation aSpeaking and writing extension: Ask children to sit in groups of 4. Each child talks about their own feelings or emotions. E. g. I’m happy. I’m brave. I’m not scared. The other children listen to him and report. E. g. He’s happy. He’s brave. He isn’t scared. Children take turns to talk about their own feelings or emotions for their friends to report. Ask children to write sentences about themselves and about their friends. Hold up each card in turn and model the words for children to repeat. Development aRecording 70: Play the first part of the recording for children to listen and point to the pictures. Play the second part of the recording for children to repeat the sounds and words in chorus. Play the recording all the way through for children to point to the words and then repeat them. aRecording 71: Children join in with the chant. Put the three cards around the room and children point as they say the chant. Ask questions about the pictures to establish what children can see. Then play the recording for them to listen to the chant. Play the recording again for children to say the chant. aExercise 3: Ask one child to come to the board, read the first line of the chant and find a word with the letter ch, sh or th (e.g. teacher). Children then look at the chant in their books, find and circle the letters ch, sh, th. Give feedback. aRecording 72: Play the recording. Ask children to listen, follow the sounds and words in the maze and draw a line to connect the letters to find out what the teacher has got - shoes, a chair, or a thumb (a chair). Listen again and check. Consolidation aPhonics activity: Divide the class into the groups. Assign each group one of the sounds /tf/,/f/, and /θ/. Ask each group to find more words with the sound. Ask the class to call out the sound and the word. Repeat several times. aDivide the class into the groups. Assign each group one of the sounds /tf/,/f/, and /θ/. Play the chant again. When children hear a word containing their sound, they clap their hands. Development aExercise 1: Ask children to look at the letters, say the sound, say the words and circle the word that contains that sound. Check the answers with the whole class. 2 teacher, 3 thumb, 4 fish aExercise 2: Children look at the pictures and write in the missing letters. Check as a whole class once the dictation activity has finished. You could write the sounds on the board and ask individual children to come up and write the words. Consolidation aPhonics game: Divide the class into 3 big groups. Assign each group one of the sounds /tf/,/f/, and /θ/. Ask each group to find more words with the sound. Ask the representative from each group to write all the words on the board. Peer correction. Ask What do you do when you're happy / sad / scared? Ask children to look at the text and predict what kind of text it is (a poem). Ask them what they can see in the pictures. Development aExercise 1: Ask children to look at the pictures again. They point to the different pictures and ask what feelings they can see. Ask, e.g. Is the boy happy / sad / scared? If you wish, ask children to work in pairs, taking turns to point to different pictures and say how the boy feels. aRecording 63: Tell children that they are going to hear a recording of the poem. Play the recording for children to listen and follow silently in their books. Play the recording a second time. Ask questions to check comprehension, e.g. What does the boy do when he's happy / scared / sad? Does the boy behave? aExercise 3: Look at the example together. Ask How does the boy feel when he plays? to elicit the answer happy. Allow time for children to re-read the text and match the other actions to the emotions. Point out that there is more than one action for some of the emotions.
