ADVERTISEMENTS
Perhaps the most creative use of language in newspaper is in the advertisements. The writers have to catch and ( 41)the reader’s attention. They often ( 42)this with a play on words. Misread it by putting the stress on the second word thereby projecting a message the advertiser would clearly not want , and this ( 45)..you look again and pay conscious attention to the alternative message.
Advertising copywriters frequently ( 46) ..use of idioms. One advertisement showed girls wearing different coloured jeans, but none the traditional blue ones. Underneath were words: “Jeanius is
( 47)..ideas out of the blue.” On level, that ( 48)..the jeans are not ordinary blue jeans but ones in a range of colours. But there is also the suggestion that these new jeans are a sudden piece of inspiration, a stroke of genius. “ Out of the blue” is an idiom which means quite unexpectedly and genius often
( 49)..getting a brilliant idea suddenly. That’s very clever, but it’s not quite the end of it, because it’s not genius they are ( 50)about, but jeanius. That is another play on words, the product they are selling, after all, is a pair of jeans.

Our eyes and ears might be called transformers because they sense the light and sound around us and turn them into electrical impulses that the brain can interpret. These electrical impulses that have been transformed by the eyes and ears reach the brain and are turned into messages that we can interpret. For the eye, the process begins as the eye admits light waves, bends them at the cornea and lens, and then focuses them on the retina. At the back of each eye, nerve fibers bundle together to form optic nerves, which join and then split into two optic tracts. Some of the fibers cross so that part of the input from the right visual field goes into the left side of the brain, and vice versa. The process in the ear is carried out through sensory cells that are carried in fluid- filled canals and that are extremely sensitive to vibration. Sound that is transformed into electricity travels along nerve fibers in the auditory never. These fibers form a synapse with neurons that carry the messages to the auditory cortex on each side of the brain.

II. Topic: Good neighbors are as good as relatives. What do you think about this?
Neighbors are the people who live near us, and their behavior influence our daily life. Good neighbors can make us feel comfortable and give us many help, and everyone will benefit from a good relationship among neighbors. In my point of view, these are three conspicuous aspects of the qualities of a good neighbors.
One of the most important characteristic of good neighbors is that they have a good living habit and are friendly to others. A person with bad habit will affect your daily life. For example, children are most likely to be influenced by bad neighbors and carry on bad habits. On the other hand, being friendly is also an important nature of good neighbors. If neighbors are unfriendly, they are hard to approach and difficult to get along with.
Another important aspect of good neighbors is that they should be willing to help others. In our daily life, emergency situations may happen, and we may encounter difficulties which cannot be resolved by ourselves. At this time, the quickest help we can get is probably from our neighbors. To some degree, neighbors are as important as relatives to us, because they could provide the immediate help. In the same way, a neighbor who likes to help others will get help in return. Help each others can form a friendly and harmonious relationship among the neighbors.
All in all, a good neighbor is someone who have a good living habit, is friendly and is willing to help others. Taking into account of all these factors, we may reach the conclusion that a good relationship among neighbors need the maintenance from us.
